RACQ LifeFlight Rescue winches two hikers from mountain

The Toowoomba-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew has winched two women from the side of a Scenic Rim mountain, after one was injured while hiking, yesterday afternoon (Sunday 30th July).

The woman is believed to have fallen and injured her ankle, preventing her from being able to descend the mountain on foot.

The rescue aircraft was called into action around 3.30pm and the crew were able to communicate with the hikers via mobile phone, to identify their location on the mountain.

The crew spotted the pair on a very steep embankment, high up on the mountain.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic were both winched down to the women, to begin assessment and treatment.

They had to move them about thirty metres, to an area that was safer for winching.

The two women and the medical crew were then hoisted up to the safety of the helicopter.

The pair were flown to a nearby oval, from where QAS paramedics transported the patient to hospital for further care.
