The Bundaberg and Sunshine Coast RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crews have worked together, to airlift a teenage boy to hospital, after he was seriously injured this afternoon (Sun 26th).
It’s believed the boy had been driving an all terrain vehicle (ATV) through long grass, on a private property, when the vehicle hit a tree stump and rolled.
He reportedly stuck out his arm, as the ATV overturned.
The limb was significantly injured, under the weight of the vehicle.
The boy’s father was riding a motorbike nearby and witnessed the accident.
He then raised the alarm.
The Bundaberg based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue chopper was despatched to the scene, in the Gladstone region, just before 1:15pm.
Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics and Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) personnel were in attendance, when the aeromedical team arrived.
The patient was stabilised on the scene, before being flown to Bundaberg Airport, to rendezvous with the Sunshine Coast RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew.
He was transferred to the second chopper and airlifted to the Queensland Children’s Hospital, in a stable condition, under the care of an RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and QAS Flight Paramedic.
