RACQ LifeFlight Rescue winch stranded bushwalker off mountain

A stranded bushwalker has been winched to safety, after he slipped and fell more than 20 metres while hiking at Mount Beerwah, this morning.

It’s believed the man, aged in his 20s, was returning from the summit when he lost his footing and slid down the rocky terrain.

A female he was walking with called for help, before the Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was sent to the scene just after 11.30am.

The man spoke on the phone to the helicopter crew, while they approached the mountain and put a bright coloured rain jacket up a tree, to make it easier for them to find him.

Once the helicopter was overhead, the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Critical Care Flight Paramedic was lowered down to the scene.

The patient was assessed, before being safely winched to the helicopter.

He was flown to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, with minor lower body injuries.
