Motocross rider airlifted after colliding with a barbed wire fence

The Toowoomba-based LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) helicopter crew has airlifted a man to hospital, after a motocross incident in the Western Downs region this afternoon (Saturday 22nd July).

It’s believed the rider, who is aged in his 60s, had been riding with a friend on private property when he rode into a barbed wire fence and crashed.

His friend alerted emergency services and the rescue chopper was called to respond at 4:15pm.

The pilot landed the aircraft at the scene where the LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and LifeFlight Flight Paramedic assisted Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics in treating the rider for multiple lacerations and chest injuries.

The crew then flew the man to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious but stable condition. Tasked by Queensland Health, the LifeFlight SGAS helicopter and crew performed this mission as part of the SGAS partners’ commitment to providing community aeromedical coverage.
