The Land Rover LifeFlight Special Mission helicopter has airlifted a man to hospital, after he suffered a serious spinal injury from diving into shallow waters off the Cooloola coast, (Saturday 15th May).
It’s believed the man had been swimming with friends, when he dove into the water and failed to resurface.
His friends quickly raced to his aid, and brought him to shore, where an off duty nurse then tendered to him until the aeromedical crew arrived.
The rescue chopper departed the Sunshine Coast Airport, when it’s currently based, shortly after 9:30am.
With no vehicle access due to a high tide, the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic were winched down to the scene.
Both the doctor and paramedic stabilised the man, aged in his twenties, before securing him in a stretcher to be winched into the aircraft.
He was flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
