LifeFlight chopper crew winches hiker injured in 8 metre mountain fall

The Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew has winched a man to safety, after he fell several metres from a popular mountain in the North Burnett, this afternoon.

It’s believed the hiker, who is aged in his 20s, was making his way down the mountain with a group, when he slipped and fell approximately 8 metres.

The rescue chopper was called to the scene just before 11:30am.

Due to the steep location where the hiker had fallen, it was decided it was safest to winch the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor, Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic and a stretcher to the patient.

Local Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) personnel and QAS paramedics were also on scene, after having reached the patient by foot.

The aeromedical crew treated the patient for a broken ankle, before securing him into the stretcher.

He was then winched up into the helicopter, along with the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and QAS Flight Paramedic.

The hiker was flown to Bundaberg Hospital in a stable condition.
