Injured man airlifted after car smashes into bridge

The Sunshine Coast RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has flown a man to hospital, after he was involved in a car crash in the Gympie region, this morning. 

It’s believed the patient, who was the driver and sole occupant of a sedan, had been attempting to overtake another vehicle. 

He reportedly lost control of his car and crashed into the guardrail of a bridge. 

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue chopper was called to the scene just before 7:45am.

Queensland Police Service (QPS) officers, Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics and Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) firefighters were all in attendance, when the aeromedical crew arrived. 

The patient, aged in his twenties, was flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition, suffering suspected spinal injuries. 

He travelled under the care of an RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and QAS Flight Paramedic.
