Tourist airlifted after bodyboarding accident

The Sunshine Coast RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has airlifted a tourist to hospital, after she suffered suspected spinal injuries in the surf at Mooloolaba this morning. (Sun 22nd)

The chopper was called to the incident, just before midday and landed nearby, at the Mooloolaba State School, within minutes of taking off from the LifeFlight base.

The aeromedical crew was met by Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics, who had treated the woman on the beach, before transporting her to the landing site.

It’s believed the tourist, aged in her fifties, had been dumped by a wave, while attempting bodyboarding for the first time.

She was in a stable condition, when she was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
