The Toowoomba-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue crew has winched a woman to safety, just before nightfall, after she became lost while bushwalking.
The chopper was tasked to the scene by the Queensland Police Service (QPS), just before 5pm yesterday (Tuesday 23 August), after the woman set off an emergency position-indicating radio beacon (EPIRB).
The pilot flew to the area, north-east of Toowoomba, and begun searching for signs of her, amongst the thick bushland.
The well prepared bushwalker used a torch and lit a small fire to alert the rescuers to her exact location.
A Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic was then winched down to the woman, who was aged in her 60s.
She was then hoisted into the safety of the helicopter and, as she was uninjured, flown back to the Toowoomba base.
The crew said the woman’s thorough preparation was key to her rescue.
“She had all the correct gear, she was a seasoned hiker and did everything appropriately, which lead to a very successful outcome,” Aircrew Officer Tony Connolly said.
