LifeFlight winches man after snakebite

The LifeFlight Sunshine Coast-based aeromedical crew yesterday winched a man to safety after he was bitten on the leg by a snake.

The rescue chopper was tasked by Retrieval Services Queensland to an area of mountainous terrain in the Somerset region at 1.24pm.

Before the helicopter arrived, the man was treated on scene by a Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedic.

The LifeFlight rescue crew officer and QAS flight critical care paramedic were lowered down to the patient and he was winched into the helicopter.

The man, aged in his 50s, was airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital for further treatment.
