The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has airlifted a teenager to hospital, after he suffered suspected spinal injuries in a diving incident, this afternoon. (Sat 24th)
The boy was reportedly spotted floating face down and unconscious, at a Sunshine Coast beach around midday, a short time after he had been diving from a sand bank into the water.
He was pulled from the water by a witness, who immediately performed CPR, until he was successfully revived.
When Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) officers and the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue medical team arrived, they treated the patient at the scene, before transporting him to the rescue helicopter, which was waiting nearby at Caloundra Airport.
The teenager was accompanied by his mother for the flight to Queensland Children’s Hospital, under the care of the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care doctor and QAS Flight paramedic.
He was in a serious but stable condition.
