The Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was kept busy with two separate missions to Fraser Island today.
A family of five had a lucky escape after their 4WD rolled on the beach. It’s believed the vehicle clipped some water while travelling along the edge of the ocean, landing on it’s roof.
The mother and two of the children were unable to free themselves from the vehicle. The father quickly released the mother from her seat belt, and the two children from their car seats.
The Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedic, based on the island, initially treated three patients; a woman in her late twenties and two children. It’s believed all three had ingested water.
The mother and two of the three children were airlifted to the Hervey Bay Hospital in a stable condition for further observation.
Earlier today, a man in his fifties, was also airlifted from Fraser Island.
He was Injured after the trail bike he was riding hit a tree root and flung him off the bike.
The local Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedic, treated the patient injuries before the rescue chopper arrived.
He had suffered shoulder and chest injuries and was airlifted to the Hervey Bay Hospital in a stable condition.
