The Sunshine Coast RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has airlifted a tourist to hospital after he was injured in an explosion, during a barbeque on a beach, in the Gympie region.
The rescue chopper was completing a mission nearby, when the crew was called to assist just after 1:30pm. (Sat 9th Oct)
The man, who is aged in his twenties, was reportedly cooking on the back of his ute, when the explosion occurred.
He suffered burns to his upper limbs and torso.
RACQ LifeFlight Rescue’s helicopter pilot managed to hover very low over the beach at the scene, to safely allow the aeromedical team to step off the aircraft and treat the patient, alongside Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Paramedics.
The pilot then landed the chopper at a field nearby.
The patient was transported in a QAS vehicle from the beach to the helicopter, before being flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a stable condition.
