Toowoomba’s RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew has winched an injured man off a mountain, after a more than 24-hour rescue effort, east of Warwick.
It’s believed the patient, aged in his 20s, was hiking with another person yesterday morning (Saturday 5th) when he slipped and fell off a cliff and down the mountain.
The pair was able to raise the alarm, using a GPS device.
Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics, Queensland Police Service (QPS) officers, Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) firefighters and State Emergency Service (SES) personnel were all called to the mountain, to help rescue the men.
A Toowoomba-based LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical crew was also called to the search area at 11:45am yesterday, but was unable to retrieve the injured man, due to the difficult terrain.
Local emergency services, including a QAS Critical Care paramedic, spent last night with the patient, on the mountain.
The Toowoomba RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew was called back to the area this morning (Sunday 6th).
First, the uninjured man was winched to the chopper and flown to a nearby clearing.
The chopper then returned to the scene, to rescue the injured hiker.
The patient was hoisted up to the chopper, accompanied by a QAS Flight Paramedic.
The man was airlifted to Toowoomba Hospital, suffering abdominal and lower body injuries, in a stable condition.
