RACQ LifeFlight Rescue is recruiting an army of volunteers, as restrictions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic begin to be eased.

While the road to recovery will be a long one, the rescue chopper service is hopeful to begin fundraising activities, at a grass roots level, in July.

“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the LifeFlight Foundation has had to indefinitely postpone or cancel events which contribute significantly to the need to cover up to 30% of the cost of running the community rescue helicopter fleet,” said Wide Bay Community Engagement Coordinator Steph McKenzie.

“It’s been a tough few months, but we’re looking forward to getting back out to our community.”

This week is National Volunteer Week.

More than 200 volunteers are the backbone of the LifeFlight Foundation, helping to raise vital funds to keep the helicopter crews flying to the aid of Queenslanders.

“We would love to build up our already fabulous team of volunteers in the Wide Bay,” Steph said.

“Our volunteers attend events and help out with small jobs leading up to those events, help engage the community and build a strong relationship between locals and RACQ LifeFlight rescue.”

The buzz of the Bundaberg RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopters is familiar to the Wide Bay community, with more than 304 airlifts to and from the region in 2019.

The passionate volunteers fundraise in the community and in turn, help rescue crews continue to provide locals with 24/7 access to emergency medical care.

But more helpers are needed in the Wide Bay and LifeFlight is encouraging locals to get involved and sign up, to give back.
