RACQ LifeFlight Rescue airlifts man bitten by shark

An RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has airlifted a man to hospital after he was bitten by a shark, off an island north-east of Gladstone.

The man, aged in his 30s, was treated for bite injuries to his hand and knee, reportedly caused by a shovel nose shark.

The Bundaberg-based rescue helicopter was called into action around 1:20 this afternoon and landed on a beach, at the island.

The Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Critical Care Flight Paramedic on board the helicopter, treated the man at the scene.

The patient was then flown to Gladstone Hospital, in a stable condition.
