Community beefs up support for LifeFlight

The Maranoa Regional Council’s Roma Saleyards donated $25,000 to LifeFlight, following its annual Charity Cattle Sale Day.

More than 8,500 cattle were sold at this year’s auction.

The money was raised through a capped percentage of the liveweight and open auction selling fees received for reach head of cattle sold.

The popular annual auction was hailed a success with some cattle coming all the way from Mt Isa.

Maranoa Regional Council Mayor Wendy Taylor thanked producers who participated in the annual fundraising initiative.

“LifeFlight continues to be an integral part of our rural and remote communities,” she said.

“We are proud to support such an important organisation who provide important critical care services to the people of the Maranoa and beyond.

“To know our community can rely on the services and support of LifeFlight in times of need provides valued peace of mind.

“Our LifeFlight Charity Cattle Sale has become a highly anticipated sale day in our Roma Saleyards calendar, and we look forward to continuing to support the aeromedical service well into the future.”

LifeFlight South West Regional Advisory Committee chair Kate Scott, said the support shown for the event was a true representation of a rural community coming together.

“The Maranoa Regional Council and local community are so passionate about the service LifeFlight provides to the region, and we continue to be astounded with the generosity shown,” she said.

“The majority of LifeFlight’s missions to the Maranoa region could happen to anyone. A lot of us out here live and work in high-risk situations and with this, unexpected accidents or emergencies can happen.

“We are extremely fortunate to have a LifeFlight helicopter staffed with a critical care doctor and paramedic only a triple 0 call away.”

Roma’s LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) helicopter came to the aid of 58 people in the past financial year.

Tasked by Queensland Ambulance Service, the LifeFlight SGAS helicopter and crew operate as part of the SGAS partners’ commitment to providing community aeromedical coverage.
