Beach landing for RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter mission

The Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter landed on a K’gari (Fraser Island) beach to airlift an injured trail bike rider to hospital.

The rescue chopper flew to the north west side of the island shortly after 12:30pm (Saturday 2nd Oct).

A man, aged in his forties, had been riding with friends, when he lost control of his motorcycle in soft sand and crashed.

His mates contacted emergency services and reported that they were driving him to the beach, in a ute.

The pilot was able to land the rescue chopper on the beach to rendezvous with the patient.

The local Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedic also responded.

The QAS Flight Paramedic assessed the man’s injured shoulder and stabilised him for flight to the Hervey Bay Hospital.
