When mum-of-two Donna set out on a multi-day hike through Carnarvon Gorge, she was preparing for her next adventure. She never imagined she would end up seriously injured, alone and waiting for a LifeFlight rescue helicopter.
When Donna suffered serious injuries after a fall at Boowinda Gorge, she was unable to walk out and needed to be winched to safety.
With the setting sun and challenging terrain making an overnight extraction unsafe, Donna faced a long night waiting for help. Off-duty LifeFlight Aircrew Officer Bryce Duke, who was volunteering with the SES, hiked in to stay with her until our Roma crew could fly out the following morning.
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, like you, the LifeFlight crew responding had received advanced training to successfully perform such missions. Aircrew Officer Nick McKee winched down Critical Care Doctor Philip Gardiner who assessed and treated her injuries before transporting her to the care she needed.
Rescues like Donna’s rely on the skill, training and expertise of our crews, made possible with the support of people like you. Please give today to keep our crews rescue-ready.
We need your help so our crews can be ready and equipped to respond wherever, and whenever people need them.

“I truly cannot thank the LifeFlight crew enough. I would just like to say thank you to anyone who has donated to LifeFlight. It means the world that there are these resources to help people when they need it.”
