Young boy airlifted after being run over by family car

It is believed that the youngster was playing in the vehicle at approximately 9.45am this morning, when he disengaged the car’s handbrake, causing it to roll backwards over a retaining wall.

Although the incident was not witnessed, it is understood that the boy was able to throw himself out of an open door, but he was subsequently struck by the vehicle.

His parents administered first aid at the scene, before emergency services arrived.

The Sunshine Coast RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was tasked to fly to the property shortly before 10am.

LifeFlight medical personnel worked with Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics on the ground and treated the patient for multiple head and pelvic injuries, before preparing him for transport.

He was flown to Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.
