It’s understood the British woman completed two dives on Monday before experiencing multiple medical symptoms, including abdominal pain and numbness in her limbs before sunrise this morning.
The Bundaberg-based RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter was called in to evacuate the patient from the island at approximately 5am.
The patient was treated on-site by the rescue helicopter’s on board Flight Paramedic before she was airlifted around poor weather conditions to Bundaberg Base Hospital.
A second RACQ CareFlight Rescue crew then met the patient in Bundaberg and airlifted her to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for further specialised treatment.
She travelled in a stable condition with her partner at her side.
