Training Academy 2

The LifeFlight Training Academy is unique. Our skilled instructors draw on their own experience of operating rescue aircraft and providing aeromedical service to give students the best possible ‘real world’ training. In the 2018-19 financial year, our Academy issued over 1,200 individual training certificates and qualifications.

The LifeFlight Training Academy is an Australian Registered Training Organisation (RTO 2762) and a Civil Aviation Safety Authority-approved training organisation, with nationally-recognised and accredited units of competency and qualifications, as well as a range of LifeFlight Academy training modules.

From its base at Brisbane International Airport (ideal for fly-in/fly-out training), the LifeFlight Training Academy provides a comprehensive suite of instructional packages, from flight and aircrew training to the latest techniques in pre-hospital emergency medicine.

The Academy is now a training facility of choice for external agencies that seek training from highly experienced LifeFlight pilots, aircrew and medical personnel. These trainers are on regular rotation on board our own rotary and fixed-wing aeromedical aircraft.

The Academy offers an assessment of the client’s training needs and will develop tailor-made solutions across a range of mission profiles:

  • Aeromedical
  • Emergency services
  • Resources: mining, oil and gas

This includes the Thales Reality H AW 139 Full Level D Flight Simulator, operating in partnership with France’s leading defence and aviation technology provider and one of only three such facilities in the southern hemisphere.

Current and previous clients of the LifeFlight Training Academy include the Australian Defence Force, Queensland Government, Queensland Ambulance, Australian Reef Pilots and multiple helicopter operators from around the world.

Entry requirements

Prior to course commencement, student enrolments and waivers must be completed. A Unique Student Identifier must also be provided prior to attending training. Further details can be found under the Unique Student Identifier below.

In cases of Refresher Training, assessments must be received for marking prior to the course date.

Due to the practical components of some of our courses, it is important that you advise us if you are unable to swim, have a fear of water or confined spaces. These issues will not prevent you from participating in the course but will assist us to ensure your wellbeing during training.

The content of each course can be specifically tailored to suit any company or organisations operation. These particular needs can be discussed at time of enquiry.

Please note that, as an entry requirement, the AVI40116 Certificate IV in Aviation (Aircrewman) requires participants to hold HLTAID003 Provide first aid.

Course duration

Please contact us directly as the course duration may vary depending on location, units selected and the number of participants involved. All accredited training is competency-based, so the level of experience participants possess will influence the required duration for a course.

Delivery method

Our courses are delivered face-to-face with an instructor/s or via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Assessment methods

Knowledge of theoretical components of training will be assessed through the use of written questionnaires. Practical competency will be conducted through observing skills. Both assessments will be conducted at the end of each component of training. Notification of results will be given at the completion of the day’s training, with the certificate sent via email within 30 days.

Resources

All assessment and practical resources are provided by the LifeFlight Training Academy. You will be notified upon course confirmation if you’re required to bring any wet gear for pool training.

Unique Student Identifier

A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is required by all Australians undertaking nationally recognised training. It allows students to link to a secure online record of all qualifications gained regardless of the provider. This system was implemented by the Australian Government in 2015, so it will show student achievements from 1 January 2015 onwards. As an RTO, The LifeFlight Training Academy cannot issue Statements of Attainment without a USI. Therefore, it is mandatory that all students supply their USI upon enrolment.

Students who do not have a USI can visit usi.gov.au/students/create-your-usi for more information and instructions on how to apply.

Payment Options

Invoices are currently organised once enrolments have been received and your placement is confirmed on a course.

Once invoiced, you have the option to pay via credit card or bank transfer.

Please note, credit card payments over $1500 will incur a 1.15% surcharge fee.
