Tourist airlifted from Fraser Island after immersion
A woman in her 20s has been airlifted with breathing difficulties after she and a group of friends got into trouble while swimming off Fraser Island.
The Chinese tourist, who is based on the Gold Coast, was one of a group of around half a dozen people who were swimming on a unpatrolled beach three kilometres north of Eurong when they found themselves out of their depth.
They all managed to make it to shore, but the woman swallowed a lot of water in the process.
The Sunshine Coast RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter was called to the island just before 1pm this afternoon.
The woman was treated by emergency services on the island before being airlifted by the rescue helicopter service to Hervey Bay Hospital for further treatment and observation.
She travelled in a stable condition.
