The 13-year-old sustained the burns when the car’s bonnet was opened after driving around a property near Beerwah in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.
The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was tasked shortly before 4.30pm.
The boy was treated at the scene by LifeFlight’s medical team and the Queensland Ambulance Service before being airlifted to Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.
