The woman was tubing on the lake when the accident occurred.
She was pulled unconscious from the water and treated by Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics before she was met by the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter.
RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Co-Pilot, Alex Dorr said the helicopter was able to be there in under 20 minutes as they were diverted from a hospital transfer at Nanango.
“We had been tasked to Nanango Hospital for a patient transfer but just before engine shutdown, we were re-tasked to Boondooma Dam as we were the closest helicopter in the region,” he said.
The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter – with LifeFlight Critical Care doctor on board – treated the woman and airlifted her in a stable condition to Brisbane.
2016-17 was a record year for LifeFlight for lifesaving missions with its aeromedical crews, community helicopters and Air Ambulance jets performing a record 5,342 missions throughout Queensland and around the world.
