The man was operating an Amphiroll when the machine broke down some distance from the bank.
Rio Tinto contacted authorities for assistance and the CareFlight helicopter was called to the man’s rescue.
The helicopter landed 300 metres away on the bank where the uninjured man was reunited with co-workers.
In a statement released by Rio Tinto Alcan Yarwun, the mining giant thanked the service for the great work it does in the community and have offered to make a donation to the not-for-profit service.
*This rescue mission was completed when the Sunshine Coast service operated as AGL Action Rescue prior to the July 1 2013 merger with CareFlight Group Queensland.
