The Queensland Police Service, (QPS) requested the Brisbane based-RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter, to commence a search for the men and their 3.3 metre tinnie, just before midday today (Sun 11th Aug), after it was reported they were overdue.

The rescue helicopter searched for almost three hours, scouring Moreton Bay, from Peel Island in the south, north to the wrecks on Moreton Island and east to Amity Point, on North Stradbroke Island.

The rescue helicopter returned to base shortly before 3pm, without finding the fishermen or their boat.

Around 3:45pm, the Brisbane based-RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was activated to re-join the search effort.

It was tasked to search Moreton Bay, by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), which has taken control of the operation, which now includes several aviation and marine assets.
