The rescue chopper was called to the crash just after 11:30am.
It’s believed the man, aged in his thirties, was trapped in the vehicle for some time, crushed by the dashboard and steering wheel.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) personnel cut him free, before the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue aeromedical crew arrived.
The patient suffered multiple injuries and was flown to Royal Women and Brisbane Hospital in a serious but stable condition, under the care of LifeFlight’s Critical Care doctor and flight paramedic.
It was the second road incident, attended by the Sunshine Coast rescue crew today.
The chopper was called to a scene north of Gympie this morning, after a primary-school aged girl was hit by a car.
She was flown to Sunshine Coast university hospital in a stable condition.
