LifeFlight CEO Ashley van de Velde has urgently identified Project Renovation Rescue as one of our top priorities in the North Coast, with full endorsement by the Board. The team, including Base Manager Brent Chamberlin, has acknowledged a number of significant advancements that need to be made at your local aeromedical facility, which will provide lifesaving improvements to those living in the North Coast.
The planned renovation of this base is very timely given that we have just had our second consecutive record year for rescues around Queensland, with the Sunshine Coast being one of our busiest bases in Queensland. Project Renovation Rescue addresses a number of functional and compliance issues and will help our crew meet the increasing demand that their lifesaving rescue service will experience in the region. The proposed renovation includes upgrades to the medical storage room including a bigger bench space for re-stocking medical packs quickly between rescue missions, creating efficiencies and saving critical minutes.
The hangar floor is in need of urgent resealing and repainting for the safety of crew, admin staff and visitors. The administration and office areas require some re-carpeting and repairs, as well as the kitchen and upstairs areas. These may seem like superficial requests, however, when crews depart the base to respond to calls to help every second can count in a life or death scenario. When the base is operating at its most functional, the crew can better direct their time and resources into their core purpose – saving lives. The LifeFlight Foundation needs to urgently raise more than $84,450 to complete the refurbishment of the base to keep it operational.
