Past-patient thanks Bundy RACQ LifeFlight Rescue crew

Friends said Graham was determined to show his gratitude in person, to Pilot Frank Bertoli and the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue team, but not before he was able to walk again.

Graham was riding his Harley Davidson, in October 2017, when his life changed forever.

On a stretch of road, with a 100km/h speed limit, a vehicle allegedly pulled out in front of his motorbike, causing a high-speed collision.

The Bundaberg RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was on another mission, when it was urgently diverted to the crash, at Avondale.

“We were a small part of a far bigger team, who helped save Graham’s life, including a witness to his accident, who performed CPR on him until emergency services and our chopper arrived at the scene,” said Frank Bertoli.

Graham was airlifted to Bundaberg Hospital with serious injuries.

The next day, the Brisbane-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter transferred him to the Princess Alexandra Hospital, for specialist care.

Sadly, the extent of his injuries resulted in the lower half of his left leg being amputated.

Despite this, the keen motorbike rider has made a stunning recovery – not only has he learned to walk again, but he’s also back riding, on a specially-designed Harley Davidson.

Today, he and his loved ones spent time with the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue team, having morning tea and inspecting the helicopter.
