Truck driver airlifted after crashing 8 metres down embankment
A truck driver is recovering in hospital after the semi trailer he was driving ran off the road, on the Bruce Highway, at the Sunshine Coast.
The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was tasked to the scene around 11:15 last night (November 2nd).
It's believed the truck had been traveling southbound, when it hit a guard rail, crashing through it and coming to a halt around eight metres down the embankment.
The rescue chopper was able to land on the highway, after emergency services had diverted traffic.
Once on scene, the LifeFlight Critical Care Doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic worked alongside QAS paramedics to treat the man for multiple injuries.
The truck driver managed to free himself from the vehicle.
He was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a stable condition.
