Search underway for fisherman overboard

The Brisbane-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has now joined the search for a fisherman, who was reported missing in waters off Double Island Point, early this morning.

The Sunshine Coast and Bundaberg RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopters are continuing to assist with the search operation.

The Sunshine Coast-based chopper was called into action at 3:40am, with the Bundaberg helicopter joining the search effort just after 7:30am.

RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter pilot, Jeremy Ovens, said the search area is located around 50 miles off the coast of Noosa.

"It's a very large body of water where it's believed the man fell off the vessel around 3 o'clock this morning," Pilot Ovens said.

"Multiple helicopters and a fixed-wing aircraft have been involved in the search."

The search operation is being coordinated by Queensland Water Police.
