Critically injured man airlifted after being hit by a car
The Sunshine Coast RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has airlifted a man to Brisbane, after he was reportedly struck by a car this morning.
The rescue chopper was called to the Sunshine Coast hinterland scene at 11:30am.
It’s believed the patient had been running on the bitumen, when he was hit by the vehicle, which had come around a bend in the road.
The man was reportedly carried nearly 50 metres on the bonnet, before it collided with a bridge, throwing him into a nearby gully.
Bystanders pulled the man from the water and performed first aid, before Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics arrived.
RACQ LifeFlight Rescue’s aeromedical team treated the man, aged in his mid twenties, for significant injuries.
He was flown to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, in a critical condition.
