Winch rescue of man who fell over 15 metres

The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has winched an elderly man to hospital after he fell over 15 metres down rocks at Point Perry, off the Sunshine Coast.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue chopper met the medical crew who had traveled to the man via road and winched both the man and a LifeFlight Critical Care doctor from the rocks and into the helicopter.

It is unknown how the man fell but the fall is believed to be between 15 and 30 metres.

The man was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital in a serious condition with upper limb injuries.

The 2017-2018 financial year was a record year for LifeFlight for lifesaving missions with its aeromedical crews, community helicopters and Air Ambulance jets performing a record 5,452 missions throughout Queensland and around the world.
