RACQ LifeFlight Rescue chopper helps save tinnie in trouble

Two boaties in destress have been rescued, after being located by the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter.

Queensland police called in the chopper at 9pm last night after the pair rang for help on a mobile phone, saying they were in a 4m tinnie off Mooloolaba near popular fishing spot Barwon Banks and taking on water.

Using night vision goggles, the Sunshine Coast crew located the vessel 17 nautical miles East of Mt Coolum.

The occupants had activated strobe lights and a hand flare to help rescuers spot them.

RACQ LifeFlight Rescue stayed on scene, hovering above the boat for about 40 minutes until a Qld Water Police vessel  arrived and took over the rescue and recovery.
