The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was sent to a single vehicle accident, north west of Gympie, at 2pm today (Sunday).

The aeromedical team landed near the accident scene, where they joined Queensland Fire Emergency Services (QFES) and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) officers, who were working on a mini van which had run off the road and collided with a tree.

The male driver was trapped inside the vehicle.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue medical team also assisted QAS to treat the female passenger, who was aged in her sixties.

She had suffered minor injuries and was airlifted to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
