Parachutist airlifted after falling from a tree

Shortly before 12:30pm the Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was tasked to a music festival west of Gympie where a parachutist had fallen from a tree.

On arrival at the festival the RACQ LifeFlight critical care Doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS)  paramedic assisted local QAS paramedics in treating the male patient. He had suffered multiple upper body injuries after falling 10 metres from near the top of the tree.

It's believed the parachutist had been entering the music festival with a large flag trailing behind him when it was caught in the top of a tree. He then proceeded to cut himself loose when he fell through the tree and landed on the ground.

He was airlifted to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
