Mundubbera man goes the extra mile for LifeFlight
He's the first man to have crossed all 14 deserts in Australia; it's safe to say David Holleran holds a special place in Australia's history.
Adding another notch to his belt David has just completed yet another gruelling challenge; the World's Longest Solo Obstacle Course, consisting of 500 kilometres and 1,133 obstacles.
Throughout the campaign for David's feat; $10,000 has been raised which will go towards ensuring the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopters remain in the sky.
For 50 years David has challenged himself time and time again, to raise vital funds for charities like LifeFlight.
Having known loved ones who've used the LifeFlight service David wanted to give back.
Aside from giving back to the community one of the reasons David loves these challenging feats is because it's just him against the clock.
"In preparation for this event I completed more than 1,000 hours, including around 4,000 kilometres of running and training," David explained.
David first started these gruelling courses in 1968 when he ran his first unofficial marathon.
"I have been in the fitness industry as a physical training instructor for more than 40 years. The human body, how far it can be pushed psychologically and physiologically has always been my passion and my life," David said.
Community Engagement Officer, Mandy Hentschel, said it's thanks to the commitment and generosity of Queenslanders like David which allows the vital aeromedical service to continue.
"What David has accomplished is incredible and LifeFlight is so grateful for the support he has given us over the years," Mandy said.
And when he's not off pushing his mental and physical health to the limits.
"I love being with my wife and family, and I love writing and playing music," David said.
2017 was a record year for LifeFlight for lifesaving missions with its aeromedical crews, community helicopters and Air Ambulance jets performing a record 5,344 missions throughout Queensland and around the world.
