Man loses hand after boating accident

A man, aged in his sixties, has been airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital after his hand was amputated earlier today.

It's believed the accident occurred while he was helping to unload a boat.

The Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was tasked to the scene, north of Bundaberg, shortly after 12:30pm where the crew worked alongside paramedics from the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) to stabilise the man before flying him to hospital.

The 2017-2018 financial year was a record year for LifeFlight for lifesaving missions with its aeromedical crews, community helicopters and Air Ambulance jets performing a record 5,452 missions throughout Queensland and around the world.
