Donation to help LifeFlight save thousands

Local Toowoomba business, Tilly’s Crawler Parts has generously donated an aircraft hydraulic rig to rescue helicopter service, LifeFlight as a donation to help the charity save thousands of dollars.

The Toowoomba RACQ LifeFlight Rescue base has been in need of a hydraulic rig to support the maintenance of its two helicopters - the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue community helicopter and the Surat Gas Aero-Medical Service (SGAS) helicopter.

A chance sighting of the rig in the machinery yard by two LifeFlight engineers sparked a conversation with Tilly’s General Manager, Lance Hinrichsen who offered to donate the vital piece of equipment as an in-kind donation.

LifeFlight’s Engineering Operations Manager, Michael Dopking said it was a generous offer considering the cost and limited availability of good quality second-hand machinery.

“The donation of the hydraulic rig provides a valuable piece of test equipment to the Toowoomba operation and will save LifeFlight thousands of dollars,” said Mr Dopking.

“The money saved with this donation ensures LifeFlight can support its ongoing operational costs and allows us to focus on our core mission – saving lives.”

Tilly’s is a locally owned business, proudly supplying quality new and used parts and used machinery for over 33 years. Tilly’s has been a long-time supporter of LifeFlight and knows the valuable work performed by the rescue helicopter service in the Darling Downs and greater Queensland.

“Tilly’s is always willing to support organisations such as LifeFlight and help protect residents in our local south-west community,” said Mr Hinrichsen.

The Toowoomba RACQ LifeFlight Rescue base was the second busiest, with 609 lifesaving missions performed in 2016-2017.

This maintenance equipment will ensure the two Toowoomba helicopters are ready to meet the increasing need for LifeFlight’s service in the south-west.

2016-17 was a record year for LifeFlight for lifesaving missions with its aeromedical crews, community helicopters and Air Ambulance jets performing a record 5,342 missions throughout Queensland and around the world.

LifeFlight is a community-based charity funded and supported by the LifeFlight Foundation
