Woman airlifted following fatal crash at Tiaro

A woman in her 80s has been airlifted to the Sunshine Coast University Private hospital following a fatal crash at Tiaro this morning.

The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was called just after 11am after reports of a collision between a car and a four wheel drive towing a caravan, at the intersection of Redbank and Netherby Road.

A female passenger was trapped in the vehicle and sustained suspected chest injuries. The Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) was first on the scene to treat the woman, while the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) worked to free her from the wreckage. The male driver of the car was pronounced deceased.

The helicopter, with a LifeFlight Critical Care Doctor on board, landed nearby on Netherby Road.

The woman was then airlifted to hospital in a stable condition.
