Traffic Controller injured after vehicle collision

The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ Life Rescue helicopter has airlifted a road traffic controller who was injured while sitting in a car which was hit from behind.

The aero-medical crew was tasked to the motor vehicle accident near Helidon on the Warrego Highway shortly before 3:15pm today.

Once they arrived on the scene the RACQ LifeFlight Critical Care Doctor and Flight Paramedic discovered that the traffic vehicle was still on its side with emergency services attending to patients.

It's believed the accident occurred when a traffic road works crew were finishing for the day and they were collecting the witches hats and signs off the road when a vehicle collided with the rear safety traffic vehicle which was stationary at the time alerting traffic to conditions ahead.

The occupants of the other vehicle received only minor injuries.

The male driver of the road works vehicle, aged in his mid fifties, suffered abdominal injuries and was airlifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition.
