Man critical after motor vehicle accident

The Sunshine Coast- based RACQ Rescue helicopter has airlifted a man in his 70s in a critical condition after a two-car motor vehicle accident on the D'Aguilar Highway at Stoney Creek, north of Caboolture.

The man was driving alone in his vehicle travelling west on the highway when he lost control and veered off the road after colliding with a vehicle travelling in front of him. 

His car then went down an embankment and rolled a number of times.

The man sustained injuries to his head, chest and legs and was treated by LifeFlight's critical care doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service paramedic after being freed from the vehicle by Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crew. 

The man was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a critical but stable condition. 

2016-17 was a record year for LifeFlight for lifesaving missions with its aeromedical crews, community helicopters and Air Ambulance jets performing a record 5,342 missions throughout Queensland and around the world.
