German tourist airlifted from Fraser Island
RACQ LifeFlight Rescue has airlifted an 18 year old German man who suffered a suspected head injury after diving into shallow water at Lake Wabby on Fraser Island.
The man had been holidaying with a group of friends when he suffered the injury and was escorted approximately 2km back to the main beach to receive initial medical attention from Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics.
QAS paramedics then transported the patient to the Eurong helipad, where they were met by the Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew shortly after 11:40am.
The crew airlifted the patient, who was accompanied by a friend he was travelling with, to Hervey Bay Hospital in a stable condition.
The patient is expected to receive further tests and treatment for possible neck and spinal injuries.
