Unwell tourist airlifted from Lady Elliot Island following dive
RACQ CareFlight Rescue airlifted a 61-year-old tourist from Lady Elliot Island early this morning after she became unwell following a diving expedition.
It’s understood the British woman completed two dives on Monday before experiencing multiple medical symptoms, including abdominal pain and numbness in her limbs before sunrise this morning.
The Bundaberg-based RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter was called in to evacuate the patient from the island at approximately 5am.
The patient was treated on-site by the rescue helicopter’s on board Flight Paramedic before she was airlifted around poor weather conditions to Bundaberg Base Hospital.
A second RACQ CareFlight Rescue crew then met the patient in Bundaberg and airlifted her to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for further specialised treatment.
She travelled in a stable condition with her partner at her side.
