Quick-thinking 8-year-old helps rescue injured grandfather
The quick thinking of an 8-year-old Bundaberg girl has led to the successful airlift of her grandfather from his North Burnett property following a quad bike accident this morning.
It is believed the girl was visiting her grandparents' property at New Moonta, west of Gin Gin, when she witnessed her 70-year-old grandfather roll his quad bike down an embankment.
She called '000' and was able to arrange to get emergency services personnel to the property.
The Bundaberg-based RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter was tasked to the property at 7.35am, and met Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics at the scene shortly after.
CareFlight Pilot Niels Bunte said the quick-thinking of the man's granddaughter helped speed his retrieval and transport to hospital.
"The gentleman was certainly lucky this little lady was visiting for the school holidays," said Niels
"She has expertly assisted emergency services get to the property and enabled us to get care to her grandfather."
The man was flown to Bundaberg Hospital with suspected spinal injuries. He travelled in a stable condition.
