CareFlight to host Community Open Day in Brisbane
RACQ CareFlight Rescue will open its Brisbane Base hangar doors to the public for the first time on Saturday 6 February for the CareFlight Community Open Day.
CareFlight’s Regional Fundraising Manager Vicki James said this is the first chance locals will have to take a rare behind-the-scenes look at the new rescue operations in Brisbane.
“The CareFlight Community Open Day is our way of saying thanks to all our devoted Brisbane supporters and showing the community what a huge difference the new hangar facility and dedicated AW139 helicopter will make to patient care in Brisbane and across the State,” Ms James said.
“It’s also a great chance for locals to get an up close look at the equipment and facilities their generous donations helped purchase over the past few months through the Brisbane Base Mobilisation Project.”
CareFlight’s new Brisbane Base has helped centralise rescue operations, reduce response times, and improve efficiencies for neonatal retrievals and inter-hospital transfers.
“The Brisbane Base is hugely beneficial for the community,” she said.
“So far there have been 270 lifesaving airlifts performed by our hard-working Brisbane crew since operations commenced mid last year.
“Each and every one of the lives saved is testament to the strong community support we have received in Brisbane as well as the surrounding regions.”
The CareFlight Community Open Day on Saturday 6 February will run from 10am to 4pm rain, hail or shine and entry is free for everyone.
Locals can enjoy tours of the hangar and helicopter, prizes, giveaways, family activities, and meet and greets with the rescue crew.
A barbeque and light refreshments will also be available for a small fee, with proceeds donated to CareFlight.
“It’s set to be a fantastic day for the whole family and aviation enthusiasts,” Ms James said.
“People may even get the chance to see the helicopter and crew take off, on their way to assist someone in need.”
CareFlight’s Brisbane hangar is located at 43 Pandanus Avenue, Brisbane Airport.
