Young snake bite victim airlifted by RACQ CareFlight Rescue

The Mount Isa-based RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter has flown to a property at Oorindi, approximately 80km from Cloncurry to assist a four-year-old female suffering a snake bite.

The crew was tasked to assist the young girl at 8.45am this morning.

It’s believed the snake had been hiding under a television cabinet inside the family’s living room before biting the child on the toe.

Family members applied first aid to the area surrounding the bite before emergency crews arrived at the scene.

She was then treated on-site by Cloncurry-based Queensland Ambulance Service officers and the Flight Paramedic on board the rescue helicopter.

It’s understood the young girl’s father captured the snake shortly after it’s contact with the child.

It’s thought the snake was a breed of adder or python.

The child was flown to Mount Isa Hospital in a stable condition.
