Telstra commits to CareFlight and the community
Nine Telstra stores across Wide-Bay Burnett have made it their mission to raise funds for local helicopter rescue service RACQ CareFlight Rescue, as part of their commitment to the community.
Telstra staff visited CareFlight’s Sunshine Coast hangar today to launch a new fundraising initiative, and take a behind-the-scenes tour of the facility.
As part of a 12 month initiative, $20 from each new phone purchased or Telstra plans upgraded on select days will be donated to CareFlight, in the hopes of raising significant funds over the next year.
RACQ CareFlight’s Fundraising Manager, Angela Miles, says Telstra has supported CareFlight for years.
“Telstra has been a big supporter of our Sunshine Coast base but this is the biggest fundraising initiative to date and something we’ve never done before,” she said.
“How much we raise will be up to the community.”
Mr Kris Carver, Telstra Area General Manager in Central QLD and Sunshine Coast, said they were proud to support the local rescue service.
“Telstra Stores in Bundaberg, Gladstone, Biloela, Emerald, Maroochydore, Noosa and Roma are proud to support RACQ CareFlight Rescue who provides an essential service in regional QLD during times of great need,” Mr Carver said.
“We will have collection tins in each of our stores as well as donating $20 to CareFlight when customers purchase a new Telstra post-paid mobile phone plan on the first Saturday of each month for the next year.
“CareFlight is a great organisation and we look forward to supporting them in many ways over the next twelve months.”
Past patient Finbar Mills who suffered critical injuries following a dirt bike accident in 2009, was at the launch to personally thank Telstra for their initiative in raising necessary funds for a service which he credits his life to.
“I’ve experienced firsthand just how critical CareFlight is to the community,” Mr Mills said.
“To be able to see such a large company like Telstra committing to a charity so deserving is really gratifying.”
Customers are encouraged to support this vital fundraising initiative by visiting their local participating Telstra stores to donate today.
