RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter dispatched to light aircraft crash scene
At 11.30am this morning, the Sunshine Coast RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter was tasked by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) to perform a search and rescue mission near Point Lookout on North Stradbroke Island, following reports of a light aircraft crash.
After locating the crash site, the CareFlight helicopter crew conducted a sea search for survivors for approximately 30 minutes, before landing on a nearby beach.
From their beach vantage, the CareFlight crew were able to identify the aircraft and relayed this information on to AMSA.
It was determined that the CareFlight helicopter was no longer required shortly after, and the crew returned to base at 2pm.
